Bigodi Community Project

The community near Kibale Forest in Uganda has come together to participate in tourism generated by the fantastic chimpanzee viewing available in Uganda.  Their community project is sponsored by the Uganda Community Tourism Association.

Deeper Africa guests are served a traditional Ugandan meal by John Tinka, Community Leader.  Local guides from the nearby community provide insights on a walk through Magombe Swamp, a haven for over 137 bird species, as well as many primate species including red colobus, black and white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed monkey, L'Hoerst monkey, and vervet monkeys.  Additionally, craft items made by women and families from the surrounding community are available for sale at the community building.  This community-based approach to natural resources management provides direct economic benefit to local residents.
