"Deeper Africa arranged for absolutely top notch guides. They were great 'spotters', and so we saw things we would and have missed (and other vehicles with multiple passengers just zipped on past, hurrying to the next place on their itinerary). We learned about the culture, the economy for the typical people we were seeing, and met and talked to people we would not have approached on our own.

We went out immediately to see the wildebeest and zebras at the crossing. The sky cleared, the wildebeest finally decided to take the plunge, and we were witness to this amazing once-in-a-lifetime spectacular. This was not even our favorite part of the trip!!!

I would never have been able to chose the variety of camps and lodges that Deeper Africa set up, and for sure I did not understand the complexities of traveling in this setting."

Trip Overview

Personal encounters with wildlife are at the center of this off the beaten path adventure through three of Kenya’s most dynamic and pioneering conservation areas.

Get whisker-close with endangered species in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a sanctuary for the last three northern white rhino and a refuge for endangered elephants and black rhino. Maximize your time in the bush in Mara Naboisho Conservancy with off-road wildlife viewing and endless pathways for on-foot exploration. Your adventures culminate in the legendary Maasai Mara where your camp is in full view of the Talek River. This is a favorite crossing point for the great migration herds each year.

Both conservancies are model partnerships between local landowners, tour operators, and researchers. All camps integrate wildlife conservation with interaction in local communities.

Unique options include:
  • Traditional Land Cruiser wildlife viewing with both day and night game drives available
  • Guided walking safaris on the open plains or along the river
  • Up-close encounters in the rhino sanctuary
  • Visiting local Maasai communities and schools
  • Tracking rhinos and lions with the Ol Pejeta rangers
  • Monitoring big cats, elephants, and other wildlife with rangers and researchers
  • Observing Boran and Ankole cattle pastoral care
  • Enjoying a bush breakfast on the savanna
