"The Uganda portion of our trip was filled with incredible wildlife viewing, and thanks to our Ugandan guide, Denis Erabu, we were able to get amazingly close to the animals without disturbing them.  Denis was very in-tune with the habits of the animals and knew where and when to look for them.  He was able to anticipate the movements of the animals and approach them in a non-threatening manner allowing us to get far closer to the wildlife than other vehicles.  In many cases we were two feet from animals and alone with them for prolonged periods.

I might easily have missed the several species of monkeys we saw playing along the road throughout the country were it not for Denis' keen eye.  Seeing the gorillas was among the experiences of a lifetime, but I would not have wanted to miss out on the chimpanzees, the elephants, or any of the other wildlife either!"

Trip Overview

Our Gorilla and Chimpanzee Safari offers viewing opportunities that are not available with other outfitters. Begin in the cloud covered mountains of Bwindi, where mountain gorillas live in the high-elevation montane forest. Continue to Rwanda’s Parc National des Volcans, covered in bamboo and home to the famed gorillas in the mist. Four days of gorilla viewing allows you the opportunity to observe subtle behavioral differences resulting from the markedly different habitats in which primates live. On one special trekking day, you’ll spend a full eight hours following a single gorilla family, ending at sunset when they build their nests. This opportunity is quite different from the typical one hour time allotment usually given for viewing a gorilla family.

Beyond gorillas, you will spend a full day in the midst of the chimpanzees of Kibale National Forest whose quick movements and playful behavior mean you’ll never have a dull moment. Queen Elizabeth National Park offers relaxing traditional wildlife viewing.

We will always keep you connected with the people of Uganda and Rwanda through community walks that take you into traditional villages and a traditional lunch with a community elder. Involvement of community members in tourism is essential for conservation of the gorillas and chimpanzees left on the planet.
