Traveling to Africa has always been a dream of mine. So when things fell into place and I thought that I could seriously pursue this dream I wrote a list of things that were important for me to consider such as: what were the guides like, people I would meet, cultures I would be exposed to, animals I would want to see, lodging, food, safety etc. So I hit the internet and found Deeper Africa. I seriously looked at five tour providers but kept coming back to Deeper Africa! Every time I had a question or concern not only did Deeper Africa answer my questions thoroughly, they encouraged me to keep calling them with any other questions that I might come up with - no matter how small or annoying I felt I was.  Deeper Africa's pre-planning and logistic planning prior to departure is second to none not to mention their in-country knowledge and built in safety measures!

With me being a perfectionist and a detailed planner (due to years in Emergency Services ) I had built up my trip to Kenya up in my mind for so long that I was bound to have it tempered by reality. I was wrong! Everything was beyond what I could have expected. Joshua Sonkoyo, my guide, was more than friendly and accommodating - he was also extremely knowledgeable of the environment, culture, people and the symbiotic relationship that the animals had with one another and humans. Joshua opened up to me things I am convinced I would have never seen with another tour operator or would have experienced without his knowledge and love of the land and his country.  Read more  »

Trip Overview

This safari offers the scope, breadth, and quality which have made Kenyan safaris famous. Begin your safari in Samburu National Reserve. The elephant viewing in Samburu is spectacular, but the truly amazing thing about the Samburu area is the ecosystem differentiation which brings unique species for observation including Grevy zebra, gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, and somali ostrich.

The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a 90,000 acre wildlife reserve, is part of the vast Laikipia Plateau. Your visit to Ol Pejeta includes very good big five wildlife viewing, including black rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and lion. About one quarter of the reserve is given over to the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. Visit Jane Goodall’s Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary which provides a safe, secure, and permanent refuge for chimps orphaned at a young age by the bush meat trade.

Continue on to Nakuru, a small, beautiful park with ecosystems that include an acacia forest, woodlands, and a famous soda lake that draws flocks of flamingos. End your safari in the northern section of the Serengeti ecosystem, the Maasai Mara, the most famous reserve in Kenya. During the months of late July to October the spectacle of the migration unfolds as a million and a half wildebeest and zebra move across the vast open plains. The rest of the year is never dull with large resident game population.  Return to Nairobi having experienced the richness of a Kenyan safari.

Visa Fees
Although visa fees are an unavoidable cost, they do range in price by country.  A single-entry visit to Kenya costs $50 USD per person.  Uganda's visa fees are $50 USD.  Tanzania's are the highest at $100 USD per person.  The most cost effective is Rwanda - they do not have visa fees.  When trying to stretch your safari budget, take visa fees into consideration.
